What Happens If I Never Finish My TM SIM Registration?

If you never finish TM SIM registration, the SIM ends up deactivated: no calls, no texts, no mobile data. A brand-new SIM that is left unregistered simply never activates, and one that was already live when the legal deadline passed lost service for good. Globe's help page names service termination as the consequence for non-compliant users.

The history explains why the answer sounds so absolute. The TM SIM registration deadline was first set for April 26, 2023, then extended by 90 days to July 25. Unregistered SIMs lost outgoing services and incoming calls the next day, but a five-day window through July 30 let people register and get reactivated, and incoming texts stayed on so the OTP could still arrive. From July 31, remaining load and promo balances on unregistered SIMs were forfeited and the SIMs were permanently deactivated. The NTC counted about 114 million registered SIMs at the end of that window, around two-thirds of the roughly 168 million in circulation, so a large share of listed SIMs never made it onto the register.

People still ask whether TM SIM registration can be done today for an old line that lapsed. Per Globe, a SIM deactivated for missing registration cannot be repurchased with the same number, and the grace period ended in 2023, so a lapsed line is generally gone. Newly purchased SIMs are the live case: they can be registered right away, or at least before the expiry date printed on the packaging if you are not using the line yet. If you are unsure which category your SIM falls into, ask Globe before buying load for it.

Deactivation reaches further than the phone icon suggests, and a lapsed TM SIM registration can cut off more than calls. Mobile wallets, banking apps, and accounts that text a code to your number depend on that line staying alive, and the NTC noted in 2023 that online banking and other financial transactions were cut off on unregistered SIMs along with other services. Losing the number can mean a detour through account recovery on every app that used it, and the pace of those processes varies by provider.

A related trap is finishing TM SIM registration the wrong way. Using someone else's ID, a fake ID, or false details is exactly what the Act penalizes, with imprisonment of six months to two years or a fine of up to ₱300,000, according to Globe's help page. Registering with borrowed details to skip the hassle is far riskier than being late, and it ties the line to a person who had nothing to do with it.

The practical lesson is plain: do TM SIM registration the day you buy the SIM, screenshot the reference number, and test a call or a text afterward. If a SIM is meant as a spare for a data stick or a second phone, register it as well, because a spare that will not activate in an emergency is not much of a spare, and the expiry date on the packaging is a hard stop.

If you just bought a TM SIM, the independent walkthrough on TM SIM registration lays out the steps in order so nothing gets skipped, though it is an informational site and the registration itself belongs on Globe's portal or app. Rules and deadlines have changed before and may again, and every SIM's history is different, so a Globe Store or Globe's support channels are the right place for a consultation about a specific number.
